Greetings masochistic heathens! I use these words in compassion and fraternity. It takes a special kind of idiot to play this mad game. Nothing exemplifies the idea that plans and intentions are worthless once the action starts quite like Blood Bowl. I like to say it’s the most frustrating thing I have been addicted to since girls😉
So to hear about a person playing elves for multiple seasons in any of our Division 1s and not only survive and thrive, but go undefeated for not one but 2 seasons and a total of 34 regular season games; well let’s say respect is the least of what I feel. Going from Season 8 Week 11 to Season 11 week 5, ended by Qix and Ace Trucking Co. a fine Chorf squad. So I am tickled to get a few moments of ArchXL’s time for this quick interview!
First off, the whole idea behind this is to get to know the people we are playing with so on that note: tell me as much about yourself as you are comfortable sharing! Hobbies, career, relationships, where you have lived- whatever!
Heyo, I’m sure none of this information will be used to dox me, so here we go. I have lived in various cities in California, and currently I manage a gas station in northern California. My hobbies are being garbage at archery, ok at blood bowl, and amazing at watching terrible sports anime. Also I play a ton of video games, but my faves are CK2, Rimworld, and Cataclysm DDA.
Pineapple on pizza? Yes or no
And if no how are you currently treating your obvious psychosis?
Pineapple is fine on pizza, as long as I don't have to eat any of it. I like mushrooms, bell pepper, black olive and pepperoni. I don't treat my rampant narcissism, I revel in it. On that note this interview is probably not helping that.
How did you find Blood Bowl and ReBBl respectively?
I found Blood Bowl 1 when TotalBiscuit put together that tournament, it looked like a cool game, but I never had anyone else interested so It went to the back of my mind. When the Blood Bowl 2016 came out I managed to convince enough of my Warhammer 40k group to make a 16 man league. It was only 8 players by the end of the first season, but I had enough fun playing my ogre team that I went looking for more. I was on a 3 for 3 streak joining reddit game groups, so I decided to look and see if there was a blood bowl league. Guess I'm now 4 for 4.
Who do you admire in ReBBL? For Blood Bowl or for anything..and why?
Luminous. Dude plays the best blood bowl, streams it, and does a great job explaining his thought process during the game. I probably learned more from watching back his side of our couple of matches than I have from anything else in this game. Plus he does great stuff for the admin team.
If you could boil your thoughts on Blood Bowl to one concise bit of advice what would it be?
Hmmmm, tricky. Have a plan, but realize no plan survives the first dice roll.
You have the longest unbeaten streak record. With elves. In REL 1 no less. How did you accomplish this feat? Any wisdom you are willing to share to keep teams alive?
This isn't helping the narcissism. Tbh I'm not really sure how. I definitely got lucky many times. I think I played good fundamental Blood bowl, maximizing my chances of winning while minimizing my chances of disastrous mistakes. Also I sacrificed like 13 throwers to Nuffle, so that probably helped.
There is always a simmering debate over bash vs agi and which is the “right way” Blood Bowl should be played.
You were in the heart of Killer Country for a long time with your agi team. Do you feel like one side or the other needs nerfed? And how?
Tbh bash vs agi is a distraction. This game is about control, and you can do that with both types of teams. It's just the method that varies. 2 dies requiring a 5+ or dodges and handoffs requiring 2+, it's all just a method of controlling the game. I think that elves do a pretty good job of it, obviously, but the other races can totes do it too. That said NoW iS a GrEaT tImE tO tAlK aBoUt NeRfInG tAcKlE, aMiRiTe?
Thanks again to ArchXL for his time and wisdom!
Next up I get to chat with one of the cooler personalities in REL and one of the hardest w-orc-ers for our entertainment. He Co-Runs Lineman League that proud group of aspiring to averageness coaches and the new point man for all of ReBBL’s army of Recappers and Streamers. The mean, green, not so sour core of the Big Apple Rusty Seabutter joins me next week!
