Greetings masochistic heathens! We are back again on our journey of discovery getting inside the minds of the people we spend time with and compete against. The rivals and frienemies we cultivate the competitive juices with. But a big part of that is the audience to appreciate the intricacies and moves made. Just as big is the corps of knowledgeable and enthusiastic souls willing to perform master of ceremonies duty week in and week out in streams and recaps. I’m quite proud to be able to bring you the person helping to hold all of that together! He also happens to be one of the hardest workers with his orcish fingers in many pots. Rusty Seabutter!
First off, the whole idea behind this is to get to know the people we are playing with so on that note: tell me as much about yourself as you are comfortable sharing! Hobbies, career, relationships, where you have lived- whatever!
Rusty- I guess I'm pretty into games. I've been workin in them for like 20 years now, all over the map. And then I come home and play a lot of games afterwards, so I think I like them. Otherwise despite my love for NYC, the big apple of my eye, I had a good stretch of time living as a nomad living in Flag, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Texas twice, San Fran (they hate it when you say that) and Sweden. So I've been around
Pineapple on pizza? Yes or no
And if no how are you currently treating your obvious psychosis?
R- Whatever psychosies(sp?) I have, that ain't one of them. But hey, if you are from a place incapable of making a good pizza (anywhere but here), why not throw fruit on them or make an italian bread poundcake and coat it in sauce? You gotta find some way of getting by in this harsh world.
How did you find Blood Bowl and ReBBl respectively?
R- Somebody from old Groon discovered it and talked about it and I was sorta instantly drawn to it. I like games that have real risk and loss more than just about anything. And I love orcs! AND I love sports and football itself. BB better replicates the mindbreaking randomness of real sports better than any traditional sports game to me. And then after you play a game like that for 5 years you decide to join da big leagues (REBBL) to learn that you know nothing about the game.
Who do you admire in ReBBL? For Blood Bowl or for anything..and why?
R- Zord for sure. His approach to broadcasting is exactly what I would cook up in a lab if I actually had the talent to do so. He entertains and captures the magic of a real live sports cast better than just about any, and he punctuates the incredible and absurd moments in a game perfectly. After that, I'd say I really respect the coaches that break from the norm and do it their way, like Ornan, Rollingred, Khalerick and others. And Orabbi who is a pure uncorrupted soul. Look, I like a lot of folks here.
If you could boil your thoughts on Blood Bowl to one concise bit of advice what would it be?
R- It's your two hours, make sure that you are having fun with it. If that's min/maxing, do that. If that's making a snowflake build, do that. Blood bowl will hurt you and maim you over and over again, that's what it does. So make the best of it and play the game the way that is the most fun for you. In my opinion, BB is most fun, overall, when it's at it's most silly, so release yourself to the void and let nuffle take the wheel.
You co-run the Lineman League, how is that going and how did that come to be?
R- It's Alright! We have a nice, healthy crew of good dude coaches and some really fun concepts in play. It was touch and go there a few seasons back, but we couldn't be happier with the spirit and experience of averageness that the league offers today. Find out how mediocre you can be!
You are now tasked also with hearding the cats in the Streamer/Caster group! How is that going? I understand you are recruiting?
R- Barring some issue, we are really fortunate to have a fully booked crew covering all divisions. And I said this to them already, but I'm really excited about the crew we have this season. There are a lot of really good recappers this year making some really good shit, so it's hardly herding cats. If anything, it's assigning LIONS to the human troughs!
He he.. Hey I swear I meant it like “those cool cats..”.. no?
Thanks so much Rusty for taking the time and I know I speak for the league when I say it would be a much duller place without you and your crew!
Next week I get to bring you a coach who is generally viewed as being synonymous with excellent play and more importantly one of the keener tactical minds. Former champ Luminouslight!
Until then, thanks for reading!
